# Custom fields

> Add your own fields to work orders, assets, parts and other modules.

Custom fields let you capture information Opmaint does not ask for by default, such as a cost centre on work orders, an insurance policy number on assets, or an approval code on purchase orders.

Custom fields are set per branch.

## Add a custom field

**1. Open settings**

Click your organisation name at the top of the left sidebar, choose **Settings**, and scroll to **Custom Fields**.

**2. Choose the module**

In **Module**, pick where the field should appear.

**3. Name the field**

Enter a **Label**, such as "Cost centre" or "Approval code".

**4. Choose the type**

Pick a **Type** from the list below.

**5. Repeating records (optional)**

Tick **Copy the values of this field on repeating records** if a recurring work order should carry this field's value into each new occurrence.

**6. Add**

Click **+ Add Custom Field**.

* Click **Edit** to change it
* Click **Archive** to retire it

## Where custom fields show up

They appear in the module's forms, such as the **Custom Fields** section at the bottom of the Create Work Order form. Requests and assets also have a **Custom Fields** tab.
