# Notifications

> Choose which events send email and in-app notifications, so the right people hear about the right work.

Opmaint can tell your team when something happens: a work order is created, a job goes overdue, a request comes in, a meter reading is logged. You decide which events send notifications, by email, in the app, or both.

## Choose which events notify

**1. Open settings**

Click your organisation name at the top of the left sidebar, choose **Settings**, and scroll to **Notification Settings**.

**2. Open an event group**

Expand **Workorder Events**, **Chat Events**, **Request Events**, **Meter Reading Events** or **Workflow Events**.

**3. Turn email and in-app on or off**

Each event has an **Email** switch and an **In-App** switch. Turn on the ones you want.

## Work order events

| Event | When it fires |
| - | - |
| **Created** | A work order is created |
| **Updated** | A work order is changed |
| **Status Changed** | A work order's status changes |
| **Overdue** | A work order passes its due date |
| **Completed** | A work order is marked done |
| **Overdue Reason Required** | An overdue work order needs a reason. See [Settings overview](/settings#overdue-reasons) |

## Keep notifications useful

A phone that buzzes all day gets muted. Aim for every notification to need someone's attention:

* Turn off events nobody acts on.
* Assign work to the person or [team](/teams) who will actually do it.
* Set meter limits that mean something. See [Meter alerts](/meter-alerts).
* Make sure technicians have the [mobile app](/mobile-app) installed and notifications allowed on their phone.

## Notifications from automations

For rules like "email the supervisor if a job is still overdue after 24 hours", use [Automations](/automations).
