# Parts and inventory

> Add spare parts, track stock, adjust quantities, and organise parts by type and storage location.

Opmaint keeps your spare parts stock alongside your maintenance work, so the store and the maintenance team look at the same numbers.

You find parts under **Inventory** in the left sidebar:

| Page | What it holds |
| - | - |
| **Parts** | Every part, with part number, name, description, current stock and unit |
| **Part Types** | Groups of similar parts |
| **Part Locations** | Where parts are physically stored |
| **Life Tracking** | How long parts last in service. See [Parts life tracking](/parts-life-tracking) |

## Add a part

**1. Start a new part**

Go to **Inventory** > **Parts** and click **+ Add Part**.

**2. Describe it**

Enter the **Part Name** (required), **Part Description** (required) and **Part Number**.

**3. Set the stock**

* **Measurement Unit** (required), such as nos, pair or litres.
* **Current Stock** (required): how many you have now.
* **Minimum Stock** (required): the level at which you should reorder.
* **Cost Per Unit** (required).

**4. Organise it**

Choose the **Part Type** and **Part Location** (where it is stored), and the **Vendors** you buy it from.

**5. Link it to where it is used**

Choose the **Assets** it fits, and its **Usage Location** and **Zone**.

**6. Track its life (optional)**

Turn on **Enable Life Tracking** to follow how long this part lasts once installed. See [Parts life tracking](/parts-life-tracking).

**7. Create**

Click **Create**.

> [!TIP]
>
> Set **Minimum Stock** carefully for critical spares, the parts that stop the line when they are not on the shelf.

## Adjust stock

To correct the stock of one part, click the **...** menu on its row and choose **Adjust Stock**.

To adjust many parts at once, such as after a stock count, click **Bulk Adjustment** on the **Parts** page.

## Use parts on a job

When a technician uses a part, issue it from the work order's **Parts Used** tab with **Issue Part**. Stock goes down and the part is recorded against the job and the asset. See [Work on a work order](/work-on-a-work-order).

## Manage parts

Click the **...** menu on a part's row to **Copy ID**, **View Details**, **Edit**, **Duplicate**, **Adjust Stock** or **Delete** it. Use **Export** to download the list and **Reports** for parts reports.

## Part types

1. Go to **Inventory** > **Part Types**.
2. Create a part type, such as bearings, filters or belts.
3. Pick it in the **Part Type** field when you add or edit a part.

## Part locations

Part locations are the places parts are stored: a main store, a rack, a bin, a site store.

1. Go to **Inventory** > **Part Locations** and click **+ Add Part Location**.
2. Fill in the details and create it.
3. Pick it in the **Part Location** field when you add or edit a part.

The list shows how many parts are stored in each location.
