# Parts life tracking

> See how long installed parts last against their benchmark, and what they cost.

Life tracking follows a part from the day it is installed, so you can see how long it really lasts compared with how long it should.

You find it under **Inventory** > **Life Tracking** in the left sidebar.

## Turn it on for a part

When you add or edit a part, turn on **Enable Life Tracking**. See [Parts and inventory](/parts-and-inventory#add-a-part).

## What you see

The **Parts Life Tracking** page shows:

* **Parts with life tracking**
* **Approaching benchmark**: parts nearing the end of their expected life
* **Exceeded benchmark**: parts running past their expected life
* **Avg life vs benchmark**

For each tracked part you see the part, brand, part type, asset, when it was installed, the reading at install, the current reading and how much of its life is used.

## Tabs

| Tab | What it is for |
| - | - |
| **Live Monitoring** | Parts currently installed and how far through their life they are |
| **Life History** | Past installations and how long they lasted |
| **Benchmarks** | The expected life for each part |
| **Life Tracking** | Tracking details per part |
| **Reports** | Life tracking reports |
| **Cost Analysis** | What parts cost over their life |
| **Settings** | Life tracking settings |

## Why it matters

A part that keeps failing before its benchmark points to a bad batch, a poor supplier or an installation problem. A part that always outlasts it may be getting replaced too early.
