# Required fields

> Choose which fields people must fill in on work orders, meters, requests and purchase requests.

By default only a few fields are compulsory. If your team needs every work order to have, say, an asset and a photo, make those fields required.

## Make a field required

**1. Open settings**

Click your organisation name at the top of the left sidebar, choose **Settings**, and scroll to **Required Fields Settings**.

**2. Open the module**

Expand **Work Order**, **Meter**, **Request** or **Purchase Request**.

**3. Turn on the fields**

Switch on each field people must fill in.

## Work order fields you can require

Description, Category, Location, Asset, Priority, Users, Monitor Users, Teams, Zone, Sub Zone, Photos, Voice Notes, Workflow and Checklist.

## Good fields to require

* **Asset**: so every job lands in the asset's history.
* **Location** and **Zone**: so technicians know exactly where to go.
* **Photos**: when you need proof of the problem or the fix.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Every required field slows down creating a work order. Require only what you will actually use, or people will start skipping work orders altogether.
