# Taxes

> Set up tax rates and tax groups for purchase order line items.

Taxes are used on purchase order line items. See [Purchase management](/purchasing).

## Open tax settings

Click your organisation name at the top of the left sidebar, choose **Settings**, then click **Taxes**. The page has two tabs: **Tax Rates** and **Tax Groups**.

## Companies based in India

Turn on **My company is based in India** to switch on TDS, TCS and GST compliance features for Indian tax law.

## Add a tax rate

Tax rates are simple percentage taxes, such as VAT 5% or Sales Tax 10%.

1. On the **Tax Rates** tab, click **+ New Tax Rate**.
2. Enter the name and rate.
3. Save it.

The list shows each rate's **Name**, **Rate (%)** and **Status**.

## Tax groups

Use the **Tax Groups** tab to combine tax rates that are applied together.
